ECM Solutions Engineer - October 2017 - April 2020

After my journey ended at Suidwes Landbou (Pty) Ltd I found myself in Cape Town.

I was part of a team that inspired futuristic ECM technology. Driven to automate repetitive business processes, such as auto recon of AR/AP in accounts, portals that quote customers with customer logins, invoice processing automation (part of AP). I was initially tasked with building and learning Laserfiche an up and coming ECM technology in South Africa at the time. They gave me the opportunity to grow as I learn and learn as I grow. Having the privilege of working under and sometimes with Richard Moore I was proud and excited for the movement and ideas we had together as I was being introduced into the world that is software and technology. Having Aubrey Davies at the head of it all, we had a great team that ended up delivering some potent solutions internally and to customers. After almost 3 years at the company that ambitious bug bit me again. I wanted more, I want to go more complex and grow even further. So I resigned without a plan B, and found myself at the largest reseller of Laserfiche in South Africa Noscotek.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of the server internally
    • It was physical tin in the offices that hosted the internal Laserfiche installation
    • Cleaning of the server happened occasionally
    • Upgrading of the server - we installed more memory
    • Keeping the server clean and stable as it was a production environment
  • Management of the Laserfiche package internally
    • User licensing
    • Licensing of the Laserfiche software suite - renewals
    • Software administration
  • Solo developing of the internal processes with guidance from management where possible
  • Scoping with the team to reach a goal together
  • Documentation of processes built - technical and user guides
  • Self time management
  • Handled support alone internally

Tech Stack/Tools:

  • Laserfiche
  • Xero
  • C#
    • This is where I got my very first exposure to C#
    • I used the language to build amazing custom solutions on top of Laserfiche
    • Interacting with SDKs
    • Writing small programs from scratch that work with specific business processes
  • jQuery
    • Used very extensively on the front end
    • Used for consumpting of the Xero API on the front end
    • Used for anything custom I required that the Laserfiche package did not support natively
  • HTML & CSS
    • Used on an incredibly basic entry level
    • Used to color some boxes and style some divs
